Class HG508

Equestrian Side Saddle Class HG508: Costume Concours D'Elegance

The sole criterion for this class is the elegance of the picture presented by horse/pony and rider, and the way of going of the horse/pony. Safe tack must be used. Detailed inspection of the rider’s period costume is not required. Fancy dress is not permitted. Competitors are required to walk, trot and canter. No individual show is required but the judge may ask small groups of 3 or 4 riders to give short displays. Juniors must wear hats to current British Safety Standards or above for this class. Adult riders not wearing such hats do so at their own risk. Competitors should produce a brief resume about their costumes for the commentator, when submitting their entry.



Class 509 & 509 are affiliated to the Side Saddle Association and shall be run under the current rules defined in the SSA Member’s Handbook. Open to SSA Members and non-members.


JVJ Championships

The six highest placed competitors in class 508 will qualify for the JVJ Championships 2022. Qualifying cards will be awarded in the ring.

T139     The Barnaby Jones Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the winner of class 508. This trophy is kindly presented by Mrs Alison Harris.


Special JVJ championship rosettes will be awarded to the six qualifying competitors in class 508.


Special rosettes will be presented to the highest placed Adult and Junior Members of the S.S.A. carrying their current Championship Points Card. Special Rosettes will be awarded to every entrant.


Members carrying their current Championship Points Cards are eligible for SSA rosettes to 3rd Adult and 3rd Junior places and SSA Championship Points


Southernden Farm offers a rosette to the highest placed Member aged under 14 on 1st January of the current year.


A rosette in memory of the Late Mr R Philpot is offered by the SSA to the Adult Member judged to be the best turned out.


Manor Grange Stud Show Centre offer a rosette to the Junior Member, judged to be the best turned out.
